Kyoto's Early-Blooming Cherry Blossom Spot: The Yodo Suiro Waterway

Are you one of those dreaming to see the Cherry Blossoms (Sakura) in Japan? Well, who wouldn't? Problem is, promo fares are not available during the Sakura season, and its popularity makes this time of year perhaps the most expensive for visiting Japan.

The good news is....you can actually enjoy cherry blossoms in an off-peak season - around mid-February to mid-March.  Only a 10-minute walk from Yodo Station on the Keihan Electric Railway Line, the Yodo Suiro Waterway in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City is one of the top hidden gems in Kyoto where you can enjoy Kawazu-zakura blossom viewing the earliest in Kyoto.

Join me as I walk you through the Yodo Suiro Waterway...

The cherry trees bloom early at Yodo Suiro Waterway, and visitors can see the cherry blossoms earlier than anywhere else.  This little-known spot in Kyoto is home to approximately 200 Kawazu Zakura trees planted along a small canal. The cherry blossoms are reflected on the surface of the water, making the rows of cherry trees a pleasant place to stroll.

Kawazu Zakura has deeper pink (more like a Barbie-pink), and has larger petals as well as longer blooming period which lasts about a month.

So, go ahead and plan your trip to Kyoto.  Be enchanted by the beauty of Cherry Blossoms!
