The skies of Pampanga will again be filled with hot air balloons of all shapes and sizes as the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF) gets underway for another "Weekend of Everything that Flies". The Philippine Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2013 happens on Feb. 21 - 24, 2013 at Omni Aviation Complex, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga. One of the highlights of the event is the air show featuring Breitling Jet Team flying on their acrobatic supersonic jets everyday (except Friday, Feb. 22). Based in Dijon, France, the Breitling Jet Team is the largest civilian aerobatic display team in Europe and flies seven Aero L-39 Albatros jets. The team is expected to fly an aerial display lasting 18–20 minutes that includes close formation flying, opposition passes, solo routines and synchronized maneuvers.
Check out the schedule of activities below. It’s a whole day of fun flying. After the balloons take off, the other aerial exhibitions follow, like skydiving, paragliding, aerobatics, ultralight flights, RC aircraft displays, professional kite exhibitions, car drifting display, and more! There's also a ramp tour that allows you to walk around the active flight line and interact with aircraft pilots and ground crew.
You can also ride a balloon on a first-come-first-served basis. You will need to line up at the information booth early in the morning to register for a balloon ride. A contribution of US$250 per person for fuel and pilot’s expenses is required. Children should be at least 10 years old to ride.
Entrance Fee: P250 per person Tickets are available at the gates, at any SM Ticket outlets, at ROX Bonifacio Global City, or at ROX Marquee Mall Clark. Ample parking is available near the entrance gate. Road signs will direct you to the parking lots, where marshals will guide you to a suitable space. A parking fee is charged.
It is advisable to be there early. 5am would be an ideal time for you to be at the main entrance so you can avoid the crowd and see the morning balloon flights. Depends on the weather, the balloons will take off at around 6:30AM everyday from Thursday to Sunday.
In the afternoon of Thursday and Friday, the balloons do a fly-in wherein they try to fly back into the main grounds. On Saturday and Sunday, there's what they call a NIGHT GLOW. This is when the balloons stay on the ground but will inflate beautifully together in the evening. It’s something one shouldn’t miss.
