Let Grandpa and Grandma feel the Love on Grandparents’ Day with these Sweet Ideas

Shangri-La Plaza shares some delightful ways to mark the special day!

Grandparents are some of the most loving, caring, and giving people ever. The way they dote on their grandkids proves that they got the biggest hearts in the family. For Grandparents’ Day on September 11, return the favor and shower them with all the love with these sweet ideas and fun activities to do at Shangri-La Plaza.

Have a fun, art-filled weekend. Bond with Lolo and Lola while learning how to paint with the help of Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation, Inc. that is hosting a landscape painting workshop for both kids and adults led by Sylvia Amorsolo Lazo, the daughter of the Philippine’s first National Artist. The workshop is on September 10-11 at 10:30AM-12:30PM for the kids and 1:30-4:30PM for adults at the East Atrium. Fee is P600 for kids and P800 for adults, inclusive of materials for the first 10 people who will sign up.

For more art appreciation activities (and shopping, perhaps?), check out some of the metro’s esteemed art galleries at Shang. Head over to Galerie Stephanie for a collection of contemporary art in the Philippines or Art Circle that showcases the works of both established and up-and-coming artists. Get a glimpse of the Philippine art’s evolving history at The Saturday Group Gallery, which is established by an organization of esteemed Filipino artists.

Catch a Mexican film at the Cine México. Cine México film festival is back at Shang’s Red Carpet this year, and it’s screening six films that cover various genres for free until September 11, 2022.  And one of its must-watch films is the 2015 comedy Ella es Ramona (She is Ramona) about a woman named Ramona who struggled all her life because of her weight. But her luck may finally change after finding magical beetles in a tarot café. It’s a film that not only offers comic relief but also breaks down gender and body stereotypes. Other notable films to catch are the award-winning titles La Promesa (The Promise) and Después de Lucia (After Lucia).

Check off their shopping wishlist. Treat granny or grandpa to a day of shopping at the Grand Pop-Up Fair happening at the East Atrium until September 11. It features some of their favorite things like relaxing and all-out comfort chairs from La-Z-Boy. In between shopping, grandparents can also grab quick bites from Auntie Anne’s at the pop-up.

Jazz up their style. The ‘ber months are here, which means the rest of the year’s calendar is going to be filled with holiday gatherings. Update grandma’s or grandpa’s wardrobe for all their upcoming social activities with pieces from the new and cold season-appropriate collection of Marks & Spencer. Complete their holiday looks with exquisite jewelry from Jewelmer that offers the classic South Sea Pearl Studs that’ll make granny stand out and the Les Classiques Cufflinks that’ll make grandpa’s best look even better.

Enjoy hours-long conversations over a hearty meal. Nothing can beat the sheer sincerity of sharing a good meal with a loved one. Go on a date with grandpa or grandma by taking them to one of Shang’s dining destinations. Get the best of Shanghai cuisine like xiao long bao and Shanghai mien from Modern Shanghai. Try the tender lengua or tapas and paella from Spanish bistro, Wobbly Pan. Or choose healthier meals with Green Pastures that uses organic vegetables and a variety of homemade ingredients such as Heirloom Yellow Adobo. Or simply savor signature Filipino dishes like rellenong bangus, pancit luglog, and of course—bibingka and puto bumbong—at Via Mare.

Create #ShangMoments with your loving grandparents. On #GrandparentsDayatShang, make them feel special and bond with them in the most thoughtful ways possible.
