International Museum Day: FREE Entrance to Museums: May 18-19 2019

A museum is house of great knowledge. It's a treasure of our rich history, culture, civilization, religious practices, arts, architecture, and more. It protects, preserves, and promotes the heritage of the country. Today, May 18 is International Museum Day.  Museums in the Metro offer FREE ENTRANCE, so it's time to visit one today!

The National Museum (NM) celebrates the 2019 International Museum Day through various educational public programs happening simultaneously in the three island groups of the country. This year's theme, “Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition”, highlights the role of museums in their respective communities.

On May 18, the NM will hold FREE special guided tours, lectures, and fora in its central, regional, area, and site museums to actively reach out and bring the museum closer to the communities it serves.

Community stakeholders are expected to participate in public lectures and fora tackling programs and projects of the NM in their respective areas. These will include the conservation program for the mummies of Kabayan, Benguet (Luzon), art and architecture in Bohol (Visayas), and the development of an archaeological park in Butuan (Mindanao).

In the flagship museums in Manila, curators will hold a one-hour special guided tour on a range of topics such as architectural arts, built heritage, fine arts, underwater archaeology, and geology and paleontology.

For inquiries about the Curators' Tours in our Manila museums, kindly contact the Museum Services Division through telephone # (02) 527-0278 or e-mail at services.nationalmuseumph@gmail.com.

Participation to the focused group discussion in Butuan (Mindanao) is limited to invitees, a limited number of slots are available to attend the lecture. To pre-register, please email the Butuan National Museum at nm_butuan18@yahoo.com.

For inquiries and reservations about the Bohol forum, please contact Ms. Emmylou Palacio-Noel, National Museum Bohol Area Museum and Site Office at mobile numbers 09276002456 or 09084713090.

For inquiries regarding the Kabayan Mummies Forum, please contact Ms. Clarifel Abellera, Officer-in-Charge of the Kabayan Burial Caves Site Museum and Satellite Office at mobile numbers 09770780893 or 09301943222.
