Solidarity Bazaar at MetroWalk: Aug 2013

Check out the Solidarity Enterprise Central Depot which will be launched on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 at Metro Tent and Il Mercanti in Metrowalk, Ortigas Pasig. Solidarity Bazaar opens thereafter at 7pm onwards and will run until Aug 17, 2013. Solidarity Enterprises Market is a gathering of social enterprises that believe in an economy built on solidarity rather than competition.

The Solidarity Enterprise Central Depot aims to create an alternative market for unique, socially responsible, and environment-friendly products.  Items will be divided in the following categories:

- Gifts and wellness (virgin coconut oil, shampoo, handicrafts...)
- Food and drinks (ginger tea, chili sauce, coconut sugar, organic rice...)
- Recycled products
- Fashion and accessories (jewelry, clothes, shoes, etc)
- Industrial products and services

This event was organized by the World Fair Trade Organisation Asia, in partnership with the Asian Solidarity Economy Council (ASEC) which aims to establish a network of solidarity enterprises within the Philippines.

Here are some details about the general philosophy and idea of the project:
"As a project of the ASEC Trade and Investment Division and managed by WFTO Asia, the Solidarity Market Depot aims to create greater knowledge, appreciation, and patronage among the general public of the goods and services produced by social enterprises. Social enterprises that put into practice the principles of social solidarity economy (SSE) in which ordinary people play an active role in shaping their economic lives, constitute the focal units of "Solidarity Enterprises". Solidarity enterprises adhere to ethical values and performance criteria that contribute to social development (people), ecological conservation (planet), and economic sustainability (profit). These three strategic goals are also called the triple bottom line (or 3BL)"
