MAFBEX 2013 @WTC: Cooking the Biggest Glocal Fest


The biggest and most awaited food event of the year is back! The 7th Manila Foods and Beverages Expo, MAFBEX is set with the theme “glocal flavors” at the World Trade Center Metro Manila on June 12 to 16, 2013 from 10am to 8pm. Professionals and enthusiasts from the food and beverage industry will be treated to a five-day expo with an impressive line-up of activities. Witness culinary experts battle it out in cook-offs, learn from seminars handled by the industry’s bests, and sample all sorts of international cuisines from renowned local and international chefs.

The show is exclusively dedicated to suppliers, distributors, manufacturers and retailers of food and beverage products and equipment that cater to the food service and hospitality industries. For 2013, MAFBEX again leads the pack in addressing the trends and issues of the day. With a growing market for global flavours and tastes, this year’s event offers grand booth pavilions from Italy, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and ASEAN.

“This year’s theme reflects this mindset so we had a line-up of activities that showcased internationally-renowned chefs and experts giving tips and techniques on how best to take advantage of this current trend,” Ang added.

Organized by the country’s leading exhibition and trade show organizer today, Worldbex Services International (WSI), in cooperation with the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), and for the benefit of the ABS-CBN Foundation, MAFBEX 2013 is the biggest and the most comprehensive global food exposition in the country with over 500 booths showcasing the best of the food and beverage world has to offer- from equipments, ingredients, processed food, imported and internationally sourced food related items. With last year’s turnout of 55,000 visitors, this year’s event will be the biggest yet with the inclusion of new international pavilions and stage activities brought by the 5-star chefs in the industry. 

The country’s top food distributors would also be selling imported goods at discounted prices at MAFBEX. Savour ready-to-buy, ready-to-sample, ready-to-impress products that define the global basket of flavours in a one of a kind grocery experience.

Top international and locally renowned chefs will rule the stage in “Chefs of the World” as they showcase the best techniques and ingredients in the world of food. Witness celebrity chefs cook their hearts out through a fusion of flavors and tastes in a one of a kind kitchen set-up. The expo welcomes internationally renowned kitchen master chefs Sau Del Rosario, Jeremy Favia, Mitchie Sison, Stephanie Zubiri, Jill Sandique and Claude Tayag among many others to the 5-day expo that will treat visitors to an impressive line-up of gastronomic and culinary related activities. Be amazed as 5-star chefs from the country’s top hotels and restaurants from Manila Peninsula, Shangri-la Group, Pan Pacific Hotel, Solaire Resort and Casino, LJC Group, Alba Restaurant and Aristocrat Group in addition, catering institutions and culinary schools will showcase their diverse cuisine backgrounds ranging from Mediterranean, Korean, Taiwanese, Moroccan, Persian, Malaysian and modern Filipino dishes.

Throughout the duration of the event, professors and culinary experts from De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde will be conducting free seminars tackling food trends, catering, branding, food safety, wine tasting, workshops and live culinary competitions at the extended wing of the World Trade Center Metro Manila. There will also be demonstrations of some products that may prove useful in certain food-related businesses. Aside from the free seminars, competitions will also be held during the five-day event using state-of-the-art kitchen equipments by GOMECO. Expo goers will be able to witness how fun the food and service and hospitality industry can be as a promising new generation exhibits their skills in competitions such as the Benildean Flair Factor, Market Basket, Table Set-ups, Mocktail Punch, Cake Decorating, Ice Carving, and many more. 

Another highlight for this year is the Food Caterers Association of the Philippines (FCAP) Pavilion. Visitors get to rub elbows with country’s top caterers as they showcase their best healthy recipes and try out techniques on plating, food preparation, and styling. Adding another highlight for the 7th MAFBEX is the Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP) Pavilion which will showcase the prowess of the hospitality and culinary institutions of the country.
